Citroen Xsara Picasso Service Light Reset

How to Reset the Service Light Citroen Xsara Picasso

Recently I have had a few requests for Citroen Xsara Picasso Service Light Reset information from people who service their own vehicles.

Being a mobile mechanic and auto diagnostic specialist I could use the stock answer and say “I’ll have to plug it in for you”.

As you have no doubt seen through my other posts I do not believe in making things difficult for the home mechanic.
Here is the procedure:

Sit in drivers seat ignition off and handbrake applied.

Press and hold trip reset button.

Turn key to position two (ignition lights on engine not started).

Keeping the trip reset button pressed in you will notice your trip meter counting down.

When zero (0) is reached start the car and the service light (spanner symbol) should now be extinguished.

Please only use this information after your vehicle has been serviced

Normal Maintenance

Under what Ford terms “normal” conditions, oil changes will occur at a maximum of every 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometers) or 12 months. Other services to be performed at every oil change include:
• Rotate tires.
• Inspect wheels and related components for noise, wear, looseness or drag.
• Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, brake linings, hoses and parking brake.
• Inspect engine cooling system for strength; inspect cooling system hoses.
• Inspect exhaust system and heat shields.
• Inspect half-shaft boots.
• Inspect and lubricate steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends and U-joints if equipped with grease fittings.
• Inspect cabin air filter (if equipped).

The directions that come with your vehicle are lousy, and the process stinks to. And keep in mind that if you do not press the buttons fast enough, or hold long enough, you must start over. It usually takes a few tries. Here’s how to do it:

1.) Press the TRIP/RESET button to cycle to “SETUP MENU HOLD RESET”.
2.) Now press and hold the button for 2 seconds until “RESET FOR SYSTEM CHECK” is displayed, then release.
3.) Imediately press and hold button for 2 more seconds until “Oil 100% RESET IF NEW” is displayed, then release.
4.) Imediately press button once to display “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL” and release.
5.) Imediately press and hold button for 2 seconds until “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed.

If you have done this dance properly, without delaying too long between steps, you are done. What a pain in the butt just to reset the oil maintenance light!!!

Engine Oil Change Indicator System

Oil Change Required
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change
indicator system. The “Oil Change Required” message
will flash in the EVIC display for approximately 10
seconds after a single chime has sounded to indicate the
next scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change
indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon
your personal driving style.
Unless reset, this message will continue to display each
time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN
position. To turn off the message temporarily, press and
release the MENU button. To reset the oil change indicator
system (after performing the scheduled maintenance)
refer to the following procedure.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not
start the engine).

2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times
within 10 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.

NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.
