Service light reset BMW 1 Series

2008-2012

BMW recommends the use of a reset tool.

Manual Reset

1. Turn ignition to Terminal 15 which is one turn of the key or one press of the START/STOP button.
2. Press and hold the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button for 10 seconds.
3. The upper display in the Instrument Cluster will be illuminated with a Service Item. The lower display in the Instrument Cluster will indicate the remaining time or mileage left for that Service Item. Pressing the button repeatedly will allow the display to scroll through all of the Condition Based Service Items.
4. Press and hold the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button again and the lower display screen will indicate “”OK”” or “”DUE””.”
5. Pressing the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button again will allow the “”RESET”” to appear in the lower window for that service. Releasing and reapplying the button one more time will reset the service displayed in the upper window only.
6. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

1. Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

2. Select trip metre A reading by using the trip metre button and then turn the ignition off.

  1. Turn the ignition to run, one position before starting engine.
  2. Press and hold the OIL CHANGE RESET control for 5 seconds. The message centre will count down for 5 seconds and the message centre will display OIL LIFE RESET TO 100%.
  3. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

  1. Turn the ignition to run , ne position before starting engine.
  2. Press the SETUP control to access the System Check function.
  3. Press and release the RESET control to display OIL LIFE XX% HOLD RESET NEW.
  4. Press and hold the RESET control for 2 seconds to display IF NEW OIL HOLD RESET.
  5. Press and hold the RESET control to display OIL LIFE SET TO 100%. Your oil life is now reset.
  6. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

  2. Select this function from the SETUP control PRESS RESET AT OIL CHANGE.
  3. Press RESET control to reset oil change.

  1. Turn the ignition to run, one position before starting engine.
  2. Enter SYSTEM CHECK to display “OIL XXX% OIL LIFE OK”.
  3. Press RESET control to display “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL”.
  4. Press and hold the RESET control for more than 2 seconds. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL CHANGE SET TO 100%” is displayed.

Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days to another value, refer to the Oil Life Start Value selected from the SETUP MENU in this section.

Reset Oil life Start Value Ford Explorer Sport Trac. From years: 2006, 2007.

  1. Select this function from the SETUP control for the current display mode.
  2. Each press of the RESET control reduces the value by 10 percent.

Note: Oil Life Start Value of 100% equals 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days. For example, setting Oil Life Start Value to 60% sets the Oil Life Start Value to 3,000 miles (4,828 km) and 120 days.

To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change Ford Explorer Sport Trac. From years: 2008, 2009, 2010 [approximately 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6 months] perform the following.

  1. Turn the ignition to run, one position before starting engine.
  2. Press RESET control to display “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL”.
  3. Press and hold the RESET control for more than 2 seconds. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL CHANGE SET TO 100%” is displayed.
  4. Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6 months to another value, proceed to step 5.
  5. Once “OIL LIFE SET TO XXX%” is displayed, release and press the RESET control switch to change the Oil Life Start Value. Each release and press will reduce the value by 10 percent.
  6. Note: Oil Life Start Value of 100% equals 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6 months. For example, setting Oil Life Start Value to 60% sets the Oil Life Start Value to 3,000 miles (4,828 km) and 120 days.

OIL CHANGE REQUIRED. Displayed when the engine oil life remaining is 0%.

An oil change is required whenever indicated by the message center and according to the recommended maintenance schedule.

ENGINE OIL CHANGE SOON. Displayed when the engine oil life reaches 5% or less of the Oil Life Start Value.
