Oil light reset Jeep Renegade Concept

Many Jeep vehicles track the intervals between oil changes to alert the driver when the next oil change is needed. A light illuminates on the control panel when the internal system determines it is time for an oil change. Most Jeep mechanics reset the oil light as part of the oil change service. If you change the oil in your Jeep yourself, you can manually reset the oil light. Resetting the oil light after an oil change allows the system to accurately track the time until the next oil change is needed. The procedures described in this article apply to 2010 Jeep models.

Instructions

1.Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position. Do not start the engine.

2.Press the accelerator pedal completely to the floor slowly three times within a 10-second span.

3.Turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” position.

4.Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position again. The oil light should be off. If the oil light is still illuminated, repeat the previous steps.

Oil service reset Jeep Cherokee SRT8

On my ’08 I just had the oil change indicator come on, and I successfully reset it. The point is that the message took a few seconds after turning the key on to appear in the dash. You need to wait until the message appears, then you have 10 seconds to do the 3 pedal depresses. It doesn’t work if you start depressing the pedal immediately after turning the key on, if you don’t wait for the oil change message to appear.

Engine Oil Change Indicator System

Oil Change Required
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change
indicator system. The “Oil Change Required” message
will flash in the EVIC display for approximately 10
seconds after a single chime has sounded to indicate the
next scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change
indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon
your personal driving style.
Unless reset, this message will continue to display each
time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN
position. To turn off the message temporarily, press and
release the MENU button. To reset the oil change indicator
system (after performing the scheduled maintenance)
refer to the following procedure.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not
start the engine).

2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times
within 10 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.

NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

How to Reset the Service Light on a Jeep

Instructions

Things You’ll Need
Wrench
Ignition key
OBDl or ll scanner

1. Disconnect your battery cables from the battery posts with a 6-pt. closed wrench in the size appropriate for the battery bolts. Remove the negative (black) cable first. Leave the battery disconnected for several minutes, according to Allpar.com. Reconnect, this time starting with the positive cable, and crank the engine. The code should be gone.

2. Crank the Jeep. Drive it forward, then backwards, and shut off. Repeat this procedure three times. The codes should clear on the fourth crank.

3. Use a OBDl or OBDll scan tool. Plug the tool into your Jeep’s ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link), a small, rectangular electrical port usually located under the dash. Turn the key to the “on” position. Scan the computer for codes and select the option to clear the codes.

4. Wait for the code to clear itself automatically. Once the component is fixed, the check engine light disappears after several successful ignitions. The code is then stored for a while. If the engine continues to start and run without a re-occurrence of the original problem, the code is wiped out.
